Second Round of Council Grants Announced

A broad range of local community projects will benefit from funds awarded in the second round of Wattle Range Council’s Community Grants Program for 2014/15.

Council granted more than $27,000 to seventeen (17) separate community and sporting groups at its meeting held this month.

Mayor Peter Gandolfi was impressed by the volume and quality of applications for the grants programs. “It is great to see so many worthy projects and events happening out in our local community.” Mr Gandolfi said. “The financial assistance grants programs are an important way for Council to support these small community and sporting groups and ensure they continue to grow”.

The following organisations have been awarded grants under the Community Financial Assistance Grant Program:

Beachport Branch of the National Trust of SA: Awarded $600 for improvements to the Machinery Exhibition shed.

Kalangadoo Remembers: Awarded $1,870 for renovations to the Kalangadoo War Memorial gates.

Southern Fire Community Church: Awarded $2,000 for the purchase and installation of a dishwasher and water softener at the Church.

Beachport District Development Association – Centennial Park Working Group: Awarded $2,000 to install a drinking fountain at Centennial Park, Beachport.

Greenrise Lake Advisory Committee: Awarded $2,000 to complete maintenance work at the Greenrise Lake Aboretum walkway.

Beachport Rivoli Bay Lions Club: Awarded $2,000 to install a bus shelter at Muggleton.

Penola Branch of the National Trust of SA: Awarded $2,000 to upgrade Interpretive signage at Penola.

These local sporting clubs have also been successful in securing Community Sports & Recreation Grant funding:

Millicent & District Basketball Association: Awarded $1,750 to replace existing backboards at the stadium.

Millicent Little Athletics: Awarded $1,750 to upgrade their long jump running track and pit.

Millicent Croquet Club: Awarded $1,250 to purchase croquet equipment.

Lake Bonney Sporting Clays: Awarded $1,750 to host the State Qualifying Shoot in .

Southend Progress Association: Awarded $950 to revamp sporting facilities at the Southend Community Club.

Mid South East Netball Association: Awarded $1,750 for the purchase of new association uniforms.

Millicent Pony Club: Awarded $1,750 to purchase and install new jump rails and horse yards.

Millicent Football Netball Club: Awarded $1,450 for the installation of a pump and pipe system to access rainwater from the tanks at the Basketball stadium.

McLaughlin Park Sports Inc: Awarded $1,750 for the installation of paths and traffic controls at the complex.

Millicent Gymnastics Club: Awarded $500 to conduct an equipment safety check.

This is the final round of community grant funding available to community and sporting bodies for this financial year. Applications for funding in next financial years program will be invited following adoption of the Council’s budget and Annual Business Plan in June.
