Talented Millicent youngster Brad Hann is the latest local athlete to benefit from the support of Council’s Youth Development Foundation.

At its May meeting Council awarded Brad $200 to assist with his costs to attend and compete in the Asics Australian Little Athletics Championships in Perth, WA in April of this year.

It was a successful event for the gifted young athlete coming away with a gold medal after being crowned National Champion in the High Jump event with a leap of 1.8 metres, just 3 cm shy of the Australian record.

Female footballers, Sarah and Jess Allan also addressed the Council at their meeting the following month, to thank them for their contribution assisting with costs for them to compete in the 2015 AFL Under 18 Youth Girls National Championships in Mandurah, WA in May.

They too had received $200 each in support of their pursuits at national level and reported their successes at the carnival to the Elected Members.

Applications to Council’s Youth Development Foundation are open year round and are available to young people, between the ages of 5 and 25, from the Wattle Range region whom have been selected from a locally based Community, Educational or Sporting organisation to participate in an event at a State or National level.

“Council wants to acknowledge the achievements of the talented youngsters we have in our region” said Mayor Peter Gandolfi. “Council’s contribution helps families cover some of those expenses for travel, accommodation, equipment and training that are generally involved in competing at an elite level.”

Enquiries regarding the Wattle Range Youth Development Foundation should be directed to Council on 08 8733 900 and application forms are available at any of Council’s offices or online here.
