Council is celebrating the successes of its local business and sporting organisations at last week’s 16th annual Brand SA South Australian Regional Awards held at the Naracoorte Town Hall.
With finalists in five of the twelve categories, and winners of the Iconic Pear in four, Council was well represented at the gala awards event.
Congratulations go to the following organisations who were announced as finalists in their respective categories:
Taking out the top honours in the Foodland Premium Food and Wine from our Clean Environment Food category was family owned business Kalangadoo Organic. The small business was recognised for its practices supporting the principles of localisation, sustainability and diversification.
Established Coonawarra winemakers, Bowen Estate were awarded the PIRSA Premium Food and Wine from our Clean Environment Wine award, acknowledging the Bowen family’s dedication to promoting the Coonawarra region along with the education of their visitors in sustainable winemaking practices.
In addition to being a finalist in the Small Business category, creative duo Simone Kain and Ben Hood of Hello Friday, along with their popular children’s character George the Farmer, received the Flinders University Education Award for their successful work in inspiring and educating the nation’s children in farming practices, food and fibre production.
Finally, the Statewide Tourism Award was presented to Hollick Estates of Coonawara, who have taken a new and innovative direction in the promotion of their business and the region to the inbound Chinese tourism market.
“It is fantastic to see these well established and passionate innovators from our productive and diverse region getting the recognition they deserve” Mayor Peter Gandolfi said.
The South Australian Regional Awards program is designed to raise the profile of the many success stories of the State’s regional communities, which often remain otherwise unrecognised.
