As of January 1, 2016 Federal Government legislation will require the prescribed staff/child ratios in the 2 – 3 year old room at the Gladys Smith Early Learning Centre to change from 1:8 to 1:5. This change to educator’s ratio will have a financial impact to the Centre that requires a $10 increase in fees to occur.
Improving educator to child ratios allows staff to give more individual care and attention and contributes to better social and learning outcomes for children. Educators are able to develop more effective and meaningful relationships with children, resulting in more engaged, happy and relaxed individuals. Child to staff ratios are the fundamental basis of making early childhood as high quality as possible.
Centre Director, Ms Clara Walker said “We are grateful for the continued support of the Millicent community and the families that we service. It is important that we maintain the highest quality of care and education at the Centre and that is our priority”
“The Centre has recently undergone a rigorous assessment against the National Quality Standards and received an overall rating of ‘Exceeding’. We are proud of this result and will continue to maintain the highest quality care and education in the early years. “ Ms Walker added.
The Government’s Child Care Benefit is income tested and usually paid to the Centre to reduce the fees that eligible families pay. Child Care Rebate is not income tested and is in addition to the Benefit. It covers up to 50 per cent of out of pocket costs, up to $7,500 per child per year.
