Students from 10 schools and kindergartens across Wattle Range Council are being given a unique opportunity to experience artistry at the highest level with the Council securing a Limestone Coast extension of the internationally renowned Young Artists Exchange.
The program, delivered by New York based performance collective, Artists By Any Other Name, will involve more than 1,000 primary and secondary students attending the Millicent Civic & Arts Centre to participate in lecture demonstrations in interactive music and dance. Additionally, children from Millicent’s kindergartens and child care centre will be treated to a special half hour performance aimed at a younger audience.
The senior students from Millicent High School will see an exclusive pre-presentation of a performance choreographed by the group to be performed in the Tantanoola Caves and the choir from Kangaroo Inn Area School will be attending a special tutorial session with the group. Two specialised workshops have also been scheduled for students of string instruments and dance from across the Council region and these are filling quickly.
Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Gower has been pleased by the enthusiasm to participate in the program.
“It is a jam-packed schedule, filled with opportunities for our aspiring young musicians and dancers to be exposed to international performers and learn what they can from them,” Mr Gower said. “Word has spread very quickly, and we have been excited by the participation levels.”
At the conclusion of the week, the artists have also been generous in offering their time to perform two concerts in the iconic Tantanoola Caves, which will feature string and dance in a piece choreographed exclusively for this unique and arguably world class stage.
“Event based tourism is already a strong economic driver for our region and world class events like this one will enhance both national and international brand recognition of the Limestone Coast as a region that embraces quality and diversity.” Mr Gower said.
