A key location in Beachport is one of 60 ‘Hot Spots’ earmarked to be included in a network of free wireless internet services to be installed in holiday destinations across the state by the South Australian Tourism Commission in partnership with a major telco.
The Beachport installation involves an upgrade to the existing telephone booth on the Beach Road footpath near the Susan Wilson Memorial playground. The WiFi hotspot will enhance the experience of visitors, enabling them to search for tourism information, make online bookings and upload their holiday snaps to social media.
“Tourists are now far more mobile and use the internet for a wide range of services,” said Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Ben Gower.
“It is hoped the new Wi-Fi site will attract more people to Beachport and keep them in the area for longer as they access the many services, businesses and tourism opportunities in the area.”
Signage will be erected next to the booth with instructions on how to access the Wi-Fi network and local area tourism information.
