The establishment of the Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network progresses with a third meeting to be held in the coming weeks. The aim of this meeting is to begin the action planning process for the Network in the Wattle Range area.
The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist (OCP) continues to guide the Networks’ development, facilitating the action planning and providing ongoing support. Each Network established receives $5,000 to start the activities on their Action Plan.
The OCP look forward to working with community members to assist them to develop a local Suicide Prevention Network with an Action Plan to address suicide locally.
At the upcoming meeting, which is to be held on Monday, 19 March, the OCP will work through the Action Planning Template and begin to identify:
- The reasons for developing a Network
- What the Networks’ core values are; and
- Consideration of the local issues that makes the area unique, including at-risk population groups and local organisations/supports that may partner with the Network.
The OCP will be actively engaged for the first year of the Network, attending and facilitating meetings and the Action Planning Day in the first 6-8 months. Beyond the first year the OCP’s involvement becomes more supportive in nature.
Interested persons are encouraged to take this opportunity to have a profound effect upon our community and are invited to come along and hear more on March 19. The meeting will be held in the Millicent Council Chambers from 6 pm.
