Local talent showcased in annual photographic exhibition

Wattle Range Mayor, Des Noll opened the Council’s Photographic Exhibition on Friday evening (June 21) before a capacity crowd of over 180 people, including photographers, family and the wider community. 
 
In its twelfth year, with 372 entries and 40 outstanding junior entries, representing 57 photographers and 25 new entrants; the gallery was awash with colour and the photography told a story taking viewers on a wonderous journey. 
 
Mayor Des Noll commented on the outstanding quality of the entries, reflecting the diversity of Wattle Range and the talented youth who had exhibited. He said: “We have some brilliant photographers within our region who should all be very proud of themselves. There has been a lot of excitement and enthusiasm from the photographers. I am in awe of their talent and look forward to seeing the 2020 calendar with these amazing photos in it.” 
 
Mayor Noll awarded the Mayoral Award to talented junior photographer Mia Bellinger for her bright and cheerful, well composed image of a young girl titled ‘Exposure’. Mia, a gifted young local, was highly successful on the night taking home numerous awards and merits in both the Youth and People & Portraits categories.
 
Competition judges were Jamie MacDonald, an internationally renown photographer and Steve Chapple who developed the concept of the exhibition in 2007, is well known for his photography and an accredited judge.

Mayor Des Noll thanked the sponsors of the competition Hurst Camera House, Noel and Sheila Boyle and Darren Galwey for their involvement as well as acknowledging the countless staff and volunteer hours required to collect the entries and curate the exhibition. He congratulated all of the winners and the entrants and said that it was pleasing to note that since its inception twelve years ago the exhibition has continued to grow. “Each year new photographers enter the competition bringing with them new ideas and interpretations of what Wattle Range means to them,” he said. 
 
The 2019 Wattle Range Council Photographic Exhibition is open library hours and Sundays 2-4pm through to July 30, 2019.
