Council supports Pridevember | Fly the rainbow flag

18th June 2020
Council has moved to support local community groups wishing to fly the rainbow flag during ‘Pridevember’

Wattle Range Council will purchase six rainbow flags to be made available to local community groups who wish to fly the flag for all or part of ’Pridevember’ celebrating diversity during November.

The decision was made at the June Council meeting, at which Elected Members resolved to support the event following consideration of a request from organisers of Adelaide’s annual Feast Arts and Cultural Festival.

“‘Pridevember’ is a month-long celebration of inclusivity and diversity in South Australia,” Wattle Range Mayor, Des Noll explains. “Council’s participation in this initiative will help Feast continue its important role of supporting LGBTIQ+ communities in creating a vibrant, fun and safe South Australian Pride experience.”

“It is important that we respect and support all of our community members, and especially our youth – as part of this initiative Council’s Elected Members have also requested that a Pride display be set up in the Millicent Library during November, celebrating inclusivity and diversity and including a rainbow flag,” Mayor Noll said.

Any group interested in flying the rainbow flag during ‘Pridevember’ should contact Council’s Community Development Officer, Sarah Marzec on (08) 8733 0900 or email at council@wattlerange.sa.gov.au, to check availability.
