COVID-19 Council Service Update
Following the recent changes to State and Federal Government advice around COVID-19 driven restrictions, Council has reviewed its service offering with the primary aim of continuing to provide as many services as we can to our community.
As at close of business Monday, 23 March, services will be affected as follows:
Council Service Centres
The customer service centre at Millicent (Civic Centre) will remain open, however, customers are requested to re-assess their need to visit and only attend in person if essential.
All customers will need to wash their hands and follow the hygiene rules displayed in the offices.
Residents are encouraged to use online payments where possible and to make enquiries via phone on 8733 0900, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit Council’s website for further information www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au.
The Library will be closed to the public from 5 pm on Wednesday, 26 March until further notice.
Online services remain available at www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au/living-here/libraries or https://onecard.network/client/en_AU/wattlerange/. Alternatively, via the Libraries SA One Card App found in your app store.

Swimming Pools & Lake
The Penola & Nangwarry Pools and the Millicent Swimming Lake will be closed for the season from 6 pm on Monday, 23 March. The process to drain the Millicent Swimming Lake will begin immediately and the public is asked to refrain from using the facility.

The Gladys Smith Early Learning Centre will remain open until the Department of Education advises that the service should not be operated. We will advise educators and families if this status changes.

Kerbside bin collections will continue as normal. Any enquires can be directed to Council’s contractor Cleanaway on 1300 410 896 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Waste Transfer Station
Council’s Waste Transfer Stations will continue to operate however a queuing system will be implemented. Users are asked to be patient and exercise social distancing and good hygiene practices.
The Works Depot will be closed to the public however required works will continue around the Council region and we would ask members of the public to exercise social distancing from workers.
The Millicent Stock Saleyards will continue to trade. However, attendance at the market will be restricted to only those conducting direct business - namely agents, buyers, transporters, contractors and staff.
Council’s cemeteries will remain open; however, visitors are asked to observe the Government’s social distancing recommendations.
Halls and Function Facilities
All of Council’s Halls and Function facilities will be closed to the public from 5 pm on Monday, 23 March 2020 until further notice.
Council’s public conveniences will remain open at this stage. The amenities block on Eyre Street, Southend will however be closed until further notice.
Beachport Boat Ramp
The Beachport Boat Ramp will remain open whilst the ramp is accessible. Unfortunately, the scheduled dredging will not occur due to contractor availability being restricted by the closure of the state border.
The April Council Meeting, scheduled to be held in Millicent on Tuesday, 14 April 2020, may be held via video conferencing.
We will be increasing the levels of cleaning at a number of our public facilities that remain open, to ensure any potential spread of infection is minimised as much as possible.
We are reaching out to local businesses to see what support is needed and we are currently working through what we can do to assist.
If you would like advice, assistance or support please call our Economic Development Team on 8733 0900.
At an operational level, Council has implemented several new health and safety measures within our workforce. This includes modified working arrangements and cancellation of any non-essential meetings.
We are providing ongoing updates on our website to ensure local residents have the latest information and advice about how COVID-19 is affecting the region and what they should do.
By taking these measures, we aim to help prevent a sharp spike in the number of infections – reducing the pressure on our health system and ensuring that everyone gets access to the care they need.
We appreciate the community’s understanding during this challenging time. For up-to-date information on Councils’ response and service impacts, please refer to our website www.wattlerange.sa.gov.au
