More than $27,000 was awarded to assist community and sporting groups throughout Wattle Range. The beneficiaries of the first round of 2014/15 community grant funding was decided at the September Council meeting.

More than $27,000 was awarded to assist community and sporting groups throughout Wattle Range. The beneficiaries of the first round of 2014/15 community grant funding was decided at the September Council meeting.

Council’s Chief Executive, Peter Harriott said the grants play an important role in Council’s ability to achieve its Strategic Directions. “It is Councils job to ensure, among other things, the well being of the community and to maintain economic vibrancy for our region.” Mr Harriott said. “The financial assistance grants programs are crucial to the assistance the wider community in supporting their local projects and events”.

The following organisations have been awarded grants under the Community Financial Assistance Grant Program:

The South East Junction, Mental Health Activity and Resource Centre: Assistance with costs associated with Mental Health Support Groups in Millicent and Penola. Awarded $525.

Rendelsham Community Hall Management Committee: Installation of picture railing in Hall, Supper Room and Foyer. Awarded $950.

National Trust of SA - Beachport Branch: Lining of outside wall of storage room at Beachport Museum to assist in preservation of goods stored. Awarded $1,400.

Penola & District Business and Tourism Association: New Christmas Banners for Penola Township to be designed by regional artists. Awarded $1,400.

Lions Club of Millicent: Establishment of a Menswatch Group in Wattle Range. Awarded $2,000.

National Trust of SA - Millicent Branch: Construction of Horse Drawn Vehicle Exhibition shed at the Millicent Living History Museum. Awarded $1,400.

Tantanoola Uniting Church: Purchase of licence and equipment required to stage movie nights at Tantanoola. Awarded $445.

National Trust of SA - Mount Gambier Branch: Assistance with costs associated with staging ‘Blades of Glencoe’, an event to celebrate Australia’s wool industry. Awarded $1,400.

Lioness Club of Millicent: Facilitation of a ‘Day Out’ for the Senior Citizens at Coola Outstation. Awarded $1,400.

Coonawarra Grape and Wine Inc: Installation of multimedia equipment at the Coonawarra Hall. Awarded $1,400.

Lions Club of Penola: Improvements to BBQ shelter and public amenities at Greenrise Lake. Awarded $1,100.

Penola & District Medical Support Group: Installation of irrigation system at Pinchunga Aged Care facility in Penola. Awarded $700.

Millicent Italian Social Club Inc: Maintenance of clubroom facilities including reglazing 5 windows due to vandalism and replacement of gutters. Awarded $700.

These local sporting clubs have also been successful in securing Community Sports & Recreation Grant funding:

Tantanoola Football/Netball Club: Installation of outdoor blinds for the clubrooms verandah. Awarded $1,250.

Beachport Bowling Club: Installation of eight (8) shade shelters in the new artificial green. Awarded $1,000.

Penola Golf Club: Replacement of tables for the improvement of Clubhouse facilities. Awarded $1,000.

Glencoe Tennis Club: Repaint and reline the two limestone tennis courts. Awarded $1,250.

Lakes Rotary: Sponsorship of the Wattle Range School Award at the SA Power Networks Blue Lake Fun Run event. Awarded $500

Millicent Golf Club: Installation of commercial dishwasher in the clubrooms. Awarded $1,250.

Furner Sports Club: Purchase of tablet for the use of MyCricket app to enable recording of relevant club records and information. Awarded $300.

Hatherleigh Netball Club: Purchase of tablet for the use of MyNetball app to enable recording of relevant club records and information. Awarded $300.

Beachport Pony Club: Assistance with costs involved in staging ‘Comeback to Beachport Day’ to celebrate 40 years of the club. Awarded $1,000.

Millicent Footballers Cricket Club: Works and equipment associated with the connection of electricity to the clubhouse facility. Awarded $1,250.

Penola and District Community Rodeo: Assistance with costs involved in staging the Penola and District Community Rodeo. This event it held to raise money for health services in the local community. Awarded $1,500.

Rivoli Bay Sailing Club: Purchase of 14ft Pacer sailng boat for use in the Discover Sailing Day program and Learn to sail and Better Sailing courses. Awarded $1,250.

Millicent United Soccer Club: Replacement of stove in kitchen area of the clubroom facilities. Awarded $600.

This is the first round of community grant funding available to community and sporting bodies for this financial year. Applications for round two funding will be invited during this coming December/January.
