Pensioners will need to register with Council to receive a rebate on their kerbside bin service this year.
The need to register with Council follows the State Government decision to no longer provide Council with current details of eligible pensioners in our area.
Director for Corporate Services Paul Duka said pensioners will be asked to fill out an application form for a Council concession and provide proof of eligibility in person at Council’s office in order to obtain the concession.
“Previously Council was provided with details of eligible pensioners in our area by the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion, however due to changes in privacy rules this information is no longer available without the consent of all pensioners,” Mr Duka said.
The State Government continues to provide Cost of Living payments directly to those entitled, which replaced the concession on Council rates from 1 July 2015. Likewise, from July 1, 2017, concessions paid in respect to Council’s Community Wastewater Management Schemes (CWMS) will also now be paid directly to recipients.
The Council concession will be applied to the waste collection service charge as a fixed concession of $150 for a 3 bin waste collection and $115 for a 2 bin waste collection. Eligibility will include pensioners who hold either an Aged or Disability Pension or a Department for Veteran Affairs Card only.
The concession applies to ratepayers who are eligible prior to September 7, 2017 and have lodged their application prior to September 30, 2017.
Enquiries regarding rates or concessions should be directed to Council’s Rates Office on (08) 8733 0900.
