Free breast cancer screening – it’s a lifesaver
BreastScreen SA provides free breast cancer screening (breast X-rays) every two years to healthy women aged 50 to 74 years, helping to detect breast changes that are too small to feel.
Each year nearly 100,000 South Australian women book their screening mammogram at BreastScreen SA, but this represents only 59% of women who are eligible.
A woman’s risk of developing breast cancer increases with age (1 in 9 South Australian women will be diagnosed before she turns 75). By finding breast cancer early, more lives can be saved and treatments can be simplified.
