The Wattle Range Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a passionate group of young people aged 12 to 24 who are selected to become the youth voice to Council. They advocate for the needs of their peers and identify opportunities for greater youth involvement in local initiatives.
YAC is made up of 11 young local leaders who represent the voices of their peers and advocate for youth priorities.
The Youth Advisory Council has been endorsed by the Elected Members within the Council.
The YAC plays a vital role in bridging the gap between council and youth, ensuring young people are engaged in the community. They contribute to projects and policies on topics such as mental health, the environment, arts and culture, technology, safety, and youth events. The group collaborates with various departments across Council and provides valuable insight into youth perspectives.
Participation in the Youth Advisory Council also gives young members the chance to develop leadership skills, learn about local government, and help shape a more inclusive, youth-friendly community.

Meetings and membership
YAC members meet monthly to discuss key issues impacting young people in the region. Membership is voluntary and runs for a 12-month term, with new members selected annually.
Meetings occur 1 - 3 times per month. Meeting frequency and days are determined by the YAC each year.
