The Wattle Range Council Photographic Exhibition, held annually in the Millicent Gallery, captures the vibrancy and diversity of the Wattle Range Region. Entries must be taken within the Council area and represent our region with an emphasis on People, Places, Business and Industry and Sport and Leisure.
Commencing in 2007, the exhibition has developed over the years into one of the most significant photographic events in South Australia. With 11 categories and prize money of over $3,500 the exhibition affords all photographers from the professional to the new photographer, the opportunity to showcase their photography and talent. The Exhibition regularly has over 400 photographs entered and photographers from throughout the region showcased.
Photographs from the exhibition are selected to be published in the Wattle Range Council Community Calendar which is highly sought after every year. It is a fantastic way to have photographers’ talents put on display.
Images from this exhibition are also used (with the permission of the photographers) in promotional activities for Council: Annual Report, Council publications, tourism collateral, such as banners, posters and brochures

People, Places, Product & Performance

2026 Categories
The 2026 competition includes Professional and Amateur awards in categories won by professional photographers, helping recognise and encourage photographers of all experience levels.
Images should depict people at work from within the Council area and this may include.
Farming, horticultural and cropping activities (Harvesting – farm machinery at work)
Cattle and sheep – images of stock being worked, in saleyards, stock yards are encouraged.
Alternative farming - bee keeping. mushrooms
Fishing – professional industry related images.
Engineering – practical application of engineering or tradespeople at work.
Manufacturing – building. Product being made or tradespeople at work in construction.
Viticulture – wine making, seasonal field work.
Small business and retail activities.
Timber Industry – timber felling, transport – processing or finished product with an emphasis on people at work within the industry.
This may include:
Local people with an historical background
Sportspeople, Community leaders or Founders
People from business or industry
Images depicting multiculturalism will be encouraged.
Aged and youth.
Black and white entries may be from any of the other categories.
Images should depict sport/leisure activities from within Wattle Range Council area.
This may include:
Sporting events/ Leisure activities
Well known sporting personalities at play.
Events and Festivals.
Community groups, volunteers and volunteer groups at work and play.
Leisure activities such as bushwalking, bike riding, food and wine dining.
Beach, swimming pool and lake activities including surfing, windsurfing and other similar boating activities. etc
Nature photography should be of birds, animals or insects found in the Council area and may include Macro images.
The competition seeks dynamic landscape images that clearly depict locations within the Council area. Generic Sunrises and sunsets should have an identifiable Council location or point of interest in it. Seasonal images that depict the changes across the four seasons are also encouraged.

This category is privately sponsored in partnership with Wattle Range Council. The aim of this category is to collect a folio of photography depicting all aspects of Lake McIntyre
For photographers under the age of 18 and images may come from any of the other categories.

May include images of race vehicles in action, farm, agricultural and forestry transport vehicles/machinery, horse, transport, and logistics including local product being moved and any other form of transport in Wattle Range area

Terms and Conditions
- Entries close Monday, 21 September 2026 - PHOTOGRAPHS TO BE SUBMITTED DIGITALLY, and TO BE RECEIVED AT THE MILLICENT LIBRARY, RIDGE TERRACE, MILLICENT
- Wattle Range Council reserves the right to use the photographs for the purpose of marketing and promotion and all photographers will be acknowledged.
- All entries must reflect the “People, Places, Product & Performance” across Wattle Range: and represent the diversity of the Region “Strength and Vision from Coast to Border” PLEASE SEE FURTHER CATEGORY INFORMATION
- Images must have been taken within the Wattle Range Council boundaries within the preceding two years.
- A release form is to be signed if there are people visible in your photograph(s).
- Competition is open to amateur and professional photographers.
- Photographers may enter 3 entries per category
- Judges decision is final
