Waste Disposal Sites

Council offers waste disposal for residents and ratepayers at five separate locations across the Wattle Range area.  Larger Resource Recovery Centres are located in Millicent and Penola, with smaller Waste Transfer Stations at Furner, Glencoe and Beachport. These facilities are intended for domestic quantities of waste.

All waste must be segregated into at least the categories below.  This table shows the types of waste that can be taken to each facility.

* Sites are closed Christmas Day and days of Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating. Council may occasionally close sites due to strong winds. Sites will be open as above on other Total Fire Ban days (Low to Extreme Fire Danger Rating).

Cleanaway continue to deliver the kerbside collection services and kerbside enquiries should be directed to 1300 410 896 or emailed to wrc@cleanaway.com.au.

Acceptable Waste

The following types of waste CAN be accepted at Council’s Resource Recovery Centres and Waste Transfer Stations:

  • Household waste;
  • Plastic bottles and aluminium cans;
  • Paper and cardboard;
  • Scrap metal (vehicles/cars are not accepted);
  • Motor oil (domestic quantities only, at limited sites);
  • E-waste;
  • Hard waste (domestic quantities of construction and demolition material, at limited sites);
  • Car batteries, all batteries (at limited sites);
  • LPG Gas cylinders (must be empty).

Prohibited Waste

The following types of waste CANNOT be accepted at Council’s Resource Recovery Centres and Waste Transfer Stations:

  • Tyres and Cars/Vehicles;
  • Mattresses (unless covering removed and metal sprigs are segregated from other materials);
  • Lounge suites (unless covering removed and components segregated);
  • Liquid Paint;
  • Treated timber (CCA, creosote);
  • Gyprock, Cement Sheeting or Asbestos;
  • Hazardous chemicals

Separating Timber Products at Beachport

From Tuesday 15 April 2020, changes regarding the size of laminated/painted timber products accepted at the Beachport Waste Transfer Station have been implemented.

Batteries no Longer Accepted at Beachport

From Monday 1 July 2019, no batteries will be accepted at the Beachport Waste Transfer Station.

Batteries can be taken, free of charge, to Millicent Scrap Metal Recyclers on Aberle Street in Millicent. Alternatively, batteries can be taken to the Millicent Resource Recovery Centre. Waste vouchers will be required for disposal, as usual.

Waste Disposal Sites - Conditions of Use

By entering the facility, you agree to these terms and conditions of use

The facilities are for use by residents and ratepayers of Wattle Range Council.

  • The facilities are intended for domestic quantities of waste.
  • A valid waste disposal voucher must be presented (original only accepted, no photocopies accepted).
  • Users must follow the reasonable direction of the attendant at all times.
  • Identification showing residency or evidence of property ownership in the Wattle Range Council area will be required by the attendant.
  • No unloading of material until the attendant has inspected your load.
  • The attendant is authorised to refuse any item or load at their discretion.
  • Follow the directions of the attendant when unloading.
  • No trucks are permitted.
  • Safety rails are to remain in place at all times.
  • Strictly no entry to bins.
  • Smoking is not permitted.
  • Children and animals are to remain in the vehicle at all times.
  • Enclosed footwear must be worn.
  • All waste must be segregated and placed in the appropriate location or bin.
  • Users are not permitted to enter a trailer or ute at any time, except as specified below.
  • Users with cage or enclosed trailers with sides higher than 1.5m may enter the trailer to unload waste, however:

o   The trailer must be parked more than 2m from the bin; and
o   The user must be on level ground before throwing / placing waste in the bin; and
o   Waste is not to be thrown from the trailer into a bin;

  • No waste is permitted to be removed from any facility.  No scavenging is permitted.
  • No cement sheeting or gyprock is accepted at any facility.
  • No hot ash or flammable material are accepted.
  • CCTV may be in operation.
