By-Laws

By-Laws are local laws established by Council for the good rule and government of the council area, and for the convenience, comfort and safety of the community. The power to establish By-Laws is given to Council through the Local Government Act 1999 (section 246). The Act also sets out certain steps, such as community consultation, that Council must follow in the establishment of By-Laws.

Council can issue penalties including expiation notices (fines) for non-compliance of a By-Law.
