Swimming Lake and Pools

COVID-19 and the Swim Season

All patrons using Council’s swimming facilities this season are asked to observe physical distancing, good hygiene and stay away if they are unwell.  Council will provide additional cleaning of high contact areas and hand sanitiser.  Please note that pool availability and requirements are subject to change based on Government directions and Council’s risk management.

Due to the closure of the Mt Gambier Aquatic Centre, the Penola Pool will be open for learn to swim lessons, lap swimming and swim club training from Monday 12 October 2020.  The pool will open to the public from Saturday 31 October 2020, provided that the forecast temperature is above 20 degrees.

Due to the water temperature, the Nangwarry Pool will open to the public from Saturday 31 October 2020, subject to the forecast temperature being 23 degrees or over.

After much discussion the Millicent Swimming Lake is confirmed to operate this season. Council has negotiated an exemption with the Department of Health and Wellbeing from COVID safety requirements for public swimming pools, as the facility is more like a beach or natural lake. This results in different COVID safety requirements being applied and it now being viable to open the Swimming Lake. Patrons are urged to follow signage at the Swimming Lake and stay out of the water when the Lake Closed signs are in place. If breaches to COVID safety are observed or swimmers using the lake whilst Lake Closed signs are in place, the Department of Health and Wellbeing can insist on the Lake being emptied for the season.

The Millicent Swimming Lake will open at the beginning of the season on Saturday 31 October 2020.
