2023-24 Swim Season

Council operates swimming facilities each Summer, with free entry during public opening times. VACSWIM programs will be offered at Council’s facilities located in Penola and Nangwarry, for more information visit www.vacswimsa.com.au/

The countdown to the start of the 2023-24 swim season has begun. Pending weather conditions, the opening dates for Council’s swim facilities will be as follows:

  • Nangwarry Swimming Pool – Friday, 3 November 2023
  • Penola Swimming Pool – Friday, 3 November 2023
  • Hire of our facilities is available for community and school events.  There is no hire fee for the 2023-24 swim season, however, hirers are required to pay for lifeguards to supervise their event. To make a booking for a community or school event please use the form provided below:

Pools
Penola Swimming Pool - Main Pool

Penola Pool

Located on Bowden Street, Penola, the Penola Swimming Pool has been upgraded in recent years and now provides a high-class facility with a 5 lane, 30 metre heated pool ranging from 0.9 metres at the shallow end to 2.8m at the deep end.  The facility is family-friendly, with a small toddler pool covered by a shade sail and shady grassed areas.  Hot showers are also available at Penola for $1 per 2 minutes and patrons are asked to bring $1 coins for showers.

* Please note the pool will only be open if the forecast temperature as advised by the Bureau of Meteorology at 9am is 20 degrees or above. Extended opening hours may apply when the temperature is over 30 degrees. On these nights, the pool will be open until 8.30pm or until the last patron leaves, whichever comes first.

In the instance where the Lifeguard/s on duty deem severe weather conditions such as thunderstorms or extreme winds to be potentially hazardous to patrons, the pool will be evacuated for a short period of time to assess the ongoing safety and potential duration of the weather event. The Lifeguard will then, subject to the risk, make the decision to either allow patrons to re-enter the water, extend the evacuation period for further assessment or to close the facility.

While there is a lifeguard is on duty during public opening hours, parents are reminded that children 12 years and under must be supervised by a responsible person 16 years or over.  Any children under 13 years who attend the pool without a responsible person will be asked to leave.

Millicent Swimming Lake

(OPEN from Dec 16th 2023 till End of February 2024 for a shorter period before major renovations occur in 2024)

Located on Park Terrace, Millicent, this unique aquatic facility provides a family-friendly environment for all skill levels with an enclosed toddler area, shallow beach, and deeper water, while the pontoon provides opportunities for more experienced swimmers.  The area includes BBQ's, a playground, shaded areas, beach volleyball court, car parking, and a privately owned kiosk.  Council has recently upgraded the changerooms at the Millicent Swimming Lake and hot showers are available for $1 per 2 minutes.  The showers are equipped with doors and contain a small seating area.  Patrons are asked to bring $1 coins for use in the hot showers. The toilet facilities are locked each evening to prevent vandalism.

Please note that there are no lifeguards on duty at the Millicent Swimming Lake.  The entire area is also declared a Dry Zone, so no alcohol is to be consumed at the site or on the surrounding parklands.  No dogs are permitted in this area.

Nangwarry Pool

Nangwarry Pool

With easy access from the highway and ample parking, the Nangwarry Pool is open for the swim season on days when the forecast is for 23 degrees and over.  Patrons can swim free of charge.

A free electric BBQ is available and new shades have been installed, both funded by the Nangwarry Community.

Watch Around Water

Wattle Range Council is a proud supporter of the Watch Around Water program, encouraging caregivers to actively supervise their children.  Children under 5 must be within arm’s reach of an adult at all times and children under 10 must be actively supervised.

COVID-19

All patrons using Council’s swimming facilities this season are asked to observe physical distancing, good hygiene, stay away if they are unwell, and monitor Government restrictions and follow directions when in our facilities. Council will provide additional cleaning of high contact areas and hand sanitiser.  Please note that pool availability and requirements are subject to change based on Government directions and Council’s risk management.
