Celebrating SEAS Open Art Awards, 60 Years of SEAS, and a Vibrant Season of Creativity in Wattle Range.

The Millicent Gallery was abuzz on Sunday as over 80 artists and supporters gathered to celebrate the opening of the Southeast Open Art Awards. With more than 70 entries on display, the exhibition marked a significant milestone, 60 years of the South East Art Society (SEAS).

The event was a powerful reminder of the role art plays in promoting mental health and well-being. Through creativity, individuals find expression, healing, and connection. SEAS continues to champion inclusivity in the arts, ensuring that creativity remains accessible to all. As psychologist Kendall once said, “Art is not just a solitary experience—it connects us to others and ourselves.”
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of long-time volunteer Peter Dunn, who was awarded Life Membership of SEAS for his enduring support of the Gallery and the arts community.

The Millicent Library and Art Gallery are proud to continue the celebration of creativity and connection through a dynamic calendar of exhibitions and programs.

The 18th annual Wattle Range Photographic Competition is now open, with entries closing on 28 September. Judging will be conducted by representatives from the South Australian Photographic Federation, ensuring a high standard of evaluation and integrity. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to submit images that capture the vibrancy of the Wattle Range region. Categories include People, Places, Business & Industry, and Sport & Leisure. Selected works will be featured in the Wattle Range Council Community Calendar.

Also open for entries is the 10th Anniversary Wattle Range Art Exhibition, celebrating 33 years of the Millicent Gallery. Since its launch in 2015, the exhibition has grown from 150 to over 200 entries annually, awarding more than $12,000 in prize money across a range of categories. The Gallery continues to be a cultural hub, shaped by passionate staff and volunteers, including the late Barbara Wallace, whose legacy lives on through her support of local artists and the display of her work at the Gallery’s entrance.
“Art connects us, inspires us, and reflects the spirit of our community. The Wattle Range Art Exhibition is a celebration of that creativity and connection.”
