Electric vehicle owners can now charge up in Millicent, with two new charging stations installed at the Wattle Range Council Service Centre car park on North Terrace.
The chargers are now available for community use and support OCPP and Type 2 (CCS2) compatible electric vehicles. Users can access the stations through the Chargefox app, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Capable of delivering up to 60kW of power, the new charging stations will support local electric vehicle users while making it easier for visitors travelling through the region to stop, recharge and explore Wattle Range.
Council CEO, Ben Gower said the installation was another step towards creating a more sustainable future for the district.
"These charging stations provide a practical service for residents and visitors while helping prepare our region for the growing adoption of electric vehicles," Mr Gower said.
"Their installation reflects Council's commitment to sustainability and reducing environmental impacts while delivering infrastructure that supports our community."
The EV chargers and planned solar canopy are the final stage of the Council Service Centre project. In coming months, a solar canopy will be installed over the car park, featuring a 120kW solar photovoltaic system and battery storage to help offset the site's energy consumption.
This work completes the final budgeted component of the development and brings the project to completion.
The Service Centre also incorporates rainwater harvesting and reuse systems, further reducing reliance on external resources.
Together, these initiatives contribute to Council's goal of creating a highly sustainable facility, with the building and associated infrastructure designed to meet at least 80 per cent of the site's projected annual electricity needs.
The EV charging stations are located at the Wattle Range Council Service Centre car park, North Terrace, Millicent, and are available for public use.
