From Local Voices to Statewide Impact: Youth Advisory Council Alumni Lead the Way
As the new Youth Advisory Council (YAC) begins its 2025 journey, the Wattle Range Council is celebrating the outstanding achievements of its past members and the remarkable opportunities that being part of YAC can provide.
Former YAC members Taine and Brogan represented the Wattle Range region at the Youth Impact Summit in Adelaide in April. The Summit, hosted by the Commissioner for Children and Young People, brought together young leaders from across the state who are passionate about driving positive change in their communities.
The event featured youth-led table talks, real-life success stories, and direct conversations with decision-makers including politicians committed to supporting young people across South Australia.
“Attending the Summit was eye-opening,” said Taine.
“It was inspiring to see how other young people are already making a difference. It made me feel like I can do the same back home.”
Brogan agreed, adding: “YAC gave us the confidence and the tools to speak up. It’s amazing how much we’ve learned, not just about leadership, but about ourselves.”
Council’s Community Development Manager, Nicole Croser emphasised the significance of these experiences:
“These kinds of opportunities aren’t just about recognition, they’re about growth, exposure, and showing our youth what’s possible. We’re incredibly proud of Taine and Brogan who were selected to deliver a table talk to other councils and youth leaders at the event. They are incredible leaders and role models for young people in our region.”
Being part of the Youth Advisory Council opens doors for young people aged 12–24 to connect, lead, and influence decisions that affect their lives. From attending Council meetings to organising youth events, the program is built to foster future community leaders and changemakers.
Mayor Des Noll reflected on the broader impact:
“What we’re seeing is the lasting effect of empowering our youth. When young people are given the chance to lead, they rise to the occasion and the entire Wattle Range Council area benefits.”
As YAC continues to grow and evolve, Wattle Range Council encourages young residents to stay engaged and take part in shaping a brighter future for all.
