Wattle Range Council is pleased to announce the opening of the new enclosed off leash dog park at McLaughlin Park, located alongside the Soccer Club. The space is already attracting strong community interest and provides another safe, social and convenient place for local dog owners to exercise their pets.
This new addition provides an alternative option to the existing smaller fenced dog park situated at the Millicent Visitor Information Centre.
Wattle Range Council CEO, Ben Gower, said the early response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s been fantastic to see so many people and their dogs making use of the new space already. It really shows just how much our community values safe, dedicated places for pets to play and socialise,” he said.
“We hope this park not only gives dog owners more choice but also helps reduce dogs straying onto nearby sporting fields, which benefits the entire McLaughlin Park precinct.”
The park includes a dedicated dog water tank; however, the water is unfiltered and not suitable for human consumption. A park bench has been installed in a shaded area to enhance visitor comfort, and two secure dog entry gates have been positioned at each end of the park to improve accessibility and safety. Signage for the park is currently being considered by Council.
Consultation with McLaughlin Park Sports Incorporated confirmed that community access to the dog park will remain available during sporting events. Dog owners simply need to let gatekeepers know they are entering the dog park only, and free access will be provided.
