The much-anticipated Millicent Met Gala – Wearable Art Competition is set to return this May as part of the 2026 Re-A-Range Sustainability Festival.
With entries now open, participants are strongly encouraged to begin designing and crafting their fashion pieces early to ensure they are ready for this year’s showcase.
Wattle Range Council, alongside a dedicated group of passionate community members, is excited to once again bring this unique event to the Civic and Arts Centre for the third-year running.
Opening the Re-A-Range Festival on Friday night, the Millicent Met Gala brings creativity, innovation and sustainability to life through striking wearable art in a fashion show with a twist.
The Met Gala aims to raise awareness around sustainability and encourage people to “re-a-range” their thinking to make more conscious choices for the future. Entrants are challenged to create garments from recycled, waste or excess materials that may otherwise have ended up in landfill.
The competition includes five categories: Most Sustainable, Art for Art’s Sake, Inclusion, Student and People’s Choice, each offering cash prizes. The major cash prize will be awarded in the Most Sustainable category, highlighting the festival’s core message.
With entries now open, participants are encouraged to start designing their masterpieces early.
Following the success of last year’s sold-out event, which attracted more than 200 attendees and featured 25 wearable art entries, organisers are anticipating another inspiring and well-attended showcase in 2026.
“We’re excited to be involved in something that inspires creativity and makes a positive difference”. “It’s amazing to see what people come up with when they think outside the box and make the most of what’s around them” said Helen Joyce Met Gala working group convenor.
“The Met Gala working group has truly embraced this event,” said Wattle Range Council Director of Development Services, Emma Clay.
“The success of last year’s Gala demonstrated not only the community’s enthusiasm but also the importance of the group’s dedication and efforts in bringing this event to life.”
The Re-A-Range Festival will run from Friday 29 to Saturday 31 May.
Festival updates, expressions of interest and Met Gala entry forms are available on the Wattle Range Council website.
