Wattle Range Council is calling on all residents to take part in a vital conversation about the future of land use in our community, with Council’s General Code Amendment now open for public consultation until 26 October 2025.
Often referred to as "rezoning", a Code Amendment guides how land can be used and developed or divided. These changes can directly influence what can be built where, from residential homes to local businesses.
As part of the consultation, Council will host a series of drop-in sessions and presentations across the Council area at Glencoe, Penola, Beachport, Millicent and online throughout September.
“This is an opportunity for the community to have their say, to help shape how we grow, how we live, and how we preserve our way of life,” said Director Development Services for Wattle Range Council, Emma Clay.
The consultation sessions will give the community a chance to ask questions and learn how proposed changes could affect them.
“All residents, especially those who own land or live near areas potentially affected by rezoning are encouraged to come along, ask questions, and provide feedback,” said Ms Clay
“Whether you support the proposed changes or have concerns, now is the time to be heard.”
To further support the consultation, a survey has been developed to gain community feedback. This can be completed online through Engage Wattle Range, with hard copy surveys also available at all Council offices.
This is a unique moment in time where the community can have a meaningful say in how land is used across the region, shaping not just developments, but the lifestyle and character of our towns and neighbourhoods.
“All feedback will be carefully considered before any decisions are made,” said Ms Clay
“I encourage everyone in our region to get informed, get involved, and have their say on what matters to them.”
This is not just a technical planning process, it’s a chance for residents, landholders, and business owners to influence how their neighbourhoods evolve in the years ahead. Whether it’s about residential growth, allotment sizes, rural living zones, or infrastructure planning, your voice matters.
The proposed Code Amendment follows the endorsement of Wattle Range Council’s Strategic Land Use Plan in 2022 that provides a 25-year vision for land use planning across the area. The proposed Code Amendment includes rezoning land in nine locations across Millicent, Beachport, Penola and Glencoe.
Copies of the draft Code Amendment and supporting materials are available at Council Service Centre or Visitor Information Centres or at www.engage.wattlerange.sa.gov.au where opportunities to provide feedback are outlined.
