Demolition to begin for former Council Office

Published 10th February 2026
Demolition will be planned to minimise disruption to the community.

Temporary fencing is now in place around the former Council Office building on George Street in readiness for its demolition.

Once services are disconnected, staged demolition will begin and is expected to take around three months, weather permitting.

There will be no changes to public access around the site. The demolition approach has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to the community.

Once complete, the site will become an open and welcoming town entrance with improved access to the Millicent Library, Gallery and Civic & Arts Centre, along with better lighting and car parking connections.

An existing plaque detailing a brief history of the site will be carefully salvaged prior to demolition and reinstated following landscaping works.

Please direct any enquiries to Council’s Engineering Team on 8733 0900.
