Cook-Childcare

The Cook at the Gladys Smith Early Learning Centre (GSELC) plays a crucial role in ensuring the preparation and delivery of quality nutritious meals for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. This position involves a range of responsibilities and tasks essential to maintaining a well-functioning kitchen.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals (for up to 74 children) in accordance with dietary requirements, food safety regulations, and quality standards
  • Plan menus that cater to diverse dietary needs, including special diets or cultural preferences
  • Order and manage inventory of kitchen supplies, ensuring the availability of necessary ingredients while minimising waste
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen area, following hygiene guidelines
  • Collaborate with the other cook to coordinate meal preparation
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations to ensure a secure working environment
  • Assist with Laundry

The ideal candidate for this role should have strong culinary skills, excellent time management, and the ability to work effectively in a team. The Cook must be able to adapt quickly to changing needs while upholding high standards for food quality, and a genuine passion and interest in the health, wellbeing and education of young children.

This is a casual role, we are looking for someone that is flexible with their availability and able to cover other staff's period of leave and someone that will work in partnership with the existing cook.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A certificate II in commercial cookery
  • An understanding of food safety
  • An understanding/awareness of the Education and Care Services National Regulations is desirable
  • Working with Children Check

An attractive hourly rate of $30.78 (inclusive of 25% loading).
