'Nature Through the Artist’s Eyes' an exhibition of works by local artists from across Wattle Range will open on Friday, June 23 at the Millicent Gallery.

The Millicent Gallery is pleased to present, 'Nature Through the Artist’s Eyes' – an exciting exhibition which brings together artists from across Wattle Range, many of whom have not previously exhibited.

Curated by renowned artist Julie McEwen, this exhibition features Millicent’s Chris Hollingsworth, Tanya Hunter and Sue Smith, who are joined by Penola’s Stella Scanlon, Anne Johnson, Cate Bell, Margaret Hage, Anne Miller, Val Smith, Lois Hodge and Jill Eckermann, along with Beachport’s Julie Linnell, Leah Hamilton, Keryn Campbell and Wendy Drew. There may even be a surprise artist or two.

Janice Nitschke, Council’s Manager Libraries and Gallery explains the rationale of the exhibition: “Julie was keen to involve artists from Penola and Beachport, promoting wider visitation and fresh participation.

“We are excited to have the artists also take part in a series of ‘artist in residence’ and these have previously proven to be extremely successful,” she added.

“The Millicent Gallery has always been supported by a wide range of artists and in it’s 30th year we were keen to encourage wider representation of our outlying areas,” Janice said.

She went on to say that: “It is well recognised the positive impact small to medium sized galleries have on our local communities. They inspire our residents and visitors through art, stories and ideas – creating jobs, educational and volunteering opportunities for many ages as well as fostering community excitement and pride.”

Mayor Des Noll will open the exhibition with guest speaker Julie McEwen on Friday, June 23rd at 6pm and it is open through to July 30th.

The Millicent Gallery is open during library hours and on Sundays from 2 pm until 4 pm.
