Wattle Range Council are inviting people to ‘Re-A-Range’ their thinking; try something a little different; and expand their knowledge on sustainable practices through a weekend of workshops, experiences and useful resources.

An initiative of the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan Group, ‘Re-A-Range - A Sustainability Weekend’ is aimed at looking into local opportunities for an off-grid lifestyle and how to live your best life sustainably.

Council’s Director Development Services, Emma Clay is passionate about sustainable living and is excited about the program. “Re-A-Range will take place over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of June 2024 and features a number of unique opportunities to learn new practices whilst also highlighting the existing offerings for sustainability throughout our wonderful part of the world,” she said.  “Whether it be local businesses offering sustainable wares, online workshops on sustainable practices, taking advantage of our Community Mulch Days or heading along to the popular Millicent Repair Café, we’ve got so much to offer,” Emma added.

“We envisage that this event could become quite popular and are looking to grow it into a full festival program in the future. We welcome expressions of interest to be involved in planning ‘Re-A-Range’ in 2025,” Ms Clay invited.

The ‘Rationally Wasted Exhibition’ opens on Sunday, May 5th at the Millicent Gallery and runs until 11th June. Over the Re-A-Range weekend the dynamic duo is offering workshops on making a bag from an upcycled t-shirt and creating repurposed flowers from old books and maps.

Saturday morning kicks off with the Millicent Show Grounds Car Boot Sale & Market; and the Millicent Op Shops - home of recycled fashion, will be opening for extended hours throughout the weekend in support of the event. There is also an opportunity to call in to the Millicent Art & Craft Centre on Fifth Street to join the Pottery Group and perhaps take up a new hobby - bookings are essential and contact details are in the brochure.

Workshops are on offer with the delightful Feresh from South Spore, who will be hosting a ‘Mushroom Walk & Fungi Identification Tour’ and a ‘How to Grow your very own Mushrooms’ class. While McCourts Garden Centre are providing information and displays on all things worm farm throughout the weekend.

The Mount Burr Trails will be the place to be at 9 am on Sunday morning. Walkers will be leaving Brown Street and congregating at the newly completed ‘Meeting Circle’ for a cultural session, providing insightful knowledge from Uncle Doug. This event is supported by the Limestone Coast Landscape Board.

Don’t forget the Youth Tricky Waste Video competition, encouraging people aged 12-25 years to embrace good waste management practices and lead a cultural shift in waste reduction and recycling.
